French President Francois Hollande, on Saturday, killing Abdelhamid Abu Zeid, one of the most prominent leaders of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb in late February during the battles led by French troops in a series the Aafujas Mountains in northern Mali.
The French presidential palace said "the Elysee" in a press statement on Saturday that the death of Abu Zeid is an important step in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel region.
